Dr. Vivian Tseng to Lead Program Department

June 24th, 2011

Vivian Tseng has been promoted to Vice President, Program, of the William T. Grant Foundation, effective September 1, 2011.

Dr. Tseng joined the Foundation in September 2004 as a post-doctoral fellow. Due to her outstanding scholarship and contributions to the Foundation during her fellowship, she was offered a position on staff. Currently, she serves as Senior Program Officer. In this capacity, Dr. Tseng has spearheaded the Foundation’s initiative on the use of research evidence in policy and practice. She also oversees the William T. Grant Scholars Program and has significantly expanded its mentoring component. She earned her doctorate in community psychology from New York University (NYU).

Dr. Tseng succeeds Edward Seidman, who is returning to full-time status as Professor of Applied Psychology at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Dr. Seidman took a leave of absence from NYU in 2004 to join the Foundation and has been instrumental in developing our current research mission and priorities. He plans to continue working closely with the Foundation on an advisory basis as a Senior Fellow and member of the Senior Program Team, which helps set the Foundation’s research agenda and consults with grantees post-award.

Foundation President Robert C. Granger said, “Vivian Tseng is doing excellent, creative work, and it is a pleasure to see her moving into this leadership role. Ed Seidman has done an exceptional job during his more than seven years heading the Program Department. As he returns to his own research and mentoring at NYU, we are fortunate that he will continue to serve as a resource for the Foundation.”
